New Student Orientation

Purpose

New Student Orientation (NSO) is a great way to kickstart your journey at Bryan College of Health Sciences. As an incoming Blue Heeler, the required NSO program provides foundational knowledge to prepare you for college, including learning about campus resources and academic support services, informing you of important College policies and procedures, and beginning to develop relationships with faculty, advisors, peer educators, college staff, and other students. BCHS students actively engaged with NSO are better prepared for the college transition and more likely to find a sense of belonging with their peers. NSO dates are provided at New Student Registration and reminders are sent to each new student before the start of the semester.

New Student Orientation Policy: New Student Orientation, which includes both in-person and electronic components, is a required program for all new first-year and transfer students. The specific duration and content of NSO is tailored to fit the needs of our incoming cohort and may vary by semester and location. Authorization for alternative ways to complete the required components of Orientation is at the discretion of the Director of Academic Support Services; requests for this authorization can be made by sending an email from your Bryan College email account. Please note exceptions are rare and are meant for unavoidable circumstances; students are expected to plan ahead in requesting time off from work and arranging travel/moving dates to be able to attend.

A student who is does not complete all elements of New Student Orientation before the start of their first semester at the College will have a registration hold placed on their account until they have completed the alternative activities authorized by the Director of Academic Support Services. Such activities may include but may not be limited to individual or group meetings with members of the Student Affairs team, individual or group meetings with a peer educator, an individual meeting with the student’s academic advisor, and/or completion of online activities. The Director of Academic Support Services, upon adding a registration hold to the student’s account, will send a message to the student’s Bryan College email informing them of the hold and of required steps for the hold to be removed.
